    Dear John, Jane,

I've been looking for the right time to talk with you, but it seems that no time is a good time. In fact, I'm having trouble saying this at all...

We've had a great # weeks, months, years together, but I don't think it's meant to be. You're about to go to school, freewheeling, moving cross country and I'm planning to travel, settle down, joining the military. Point is, we're headed in different directions and I just don't feel our relationship can survive the strain. I've really enjoyed our time together and have grown so much by being with you. Thanks to you, I've learned to sail, samba, play the guitar and appreciate a good cheese steak, sushi, classical music.  I will always remember you with fondness and hope you will do the same. I'm leaving the key on the table, returning your CD collection, heading out of town for a while but hope we can stay in touch.

    With affection,
    John,Jane
