DISCLAIMER:  This template is not intended to be a legal document but a guideline that should be reviewed by legal counsel. NOTE: A lottery involves prize, chance, and consideration. Most states do not permit unlicensed lotteries. To abide by the law, writers who draft contest rules should eliminate one of the three components. The most common action is to eliminate "consideration" by not requiring an entry fee or purchase. Next common is to allow purchase or a fee but to require skill which mandates that each entry be judged. An unskilled contest is usually drawn at random which involves "chance."

OFFICIAL RULES:  No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. (can elaborate) Must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Employees and their immediate families, agents and assigns, cannot participate. To be eligible, entries must be received by time, day, date, year by mail, e-mail, or in person at this location/address.  (add any other requirements here)

Just one entry/or multiple entries per person. Winners will be drawn at random by judges whose decisions are final. (can elaborate if judges are prestigious) A total of $$$$ in cash/in prizes
will be awarded/or is "up for grabs" (meaning offered by not necessarily awarded.)
One Grand Prize (description and value) will be awarded to the first correct entry drawn.  A first prize (description and value) will be awarded to the next three correct entries drawn. A runner up prize described here, worth $ will be awarded to the next five correct entries drawn. (where applicable: prize must be used, claimed by XYZ date) Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail. In the event that a winner cannot be reached within XX days of drawing, that prize will be awarded to the next correct entrant drawn and subsequent runners up will be drawn at random.  The odds of winning depend on the number of entries received (or more detail here). Each entrant (if minor, parent or guardian thereof) gives permission to the Company/sponsors to publish/post/promote his/her name with regard to the outcome of this contest and frees the Company/sponsors from any and all liability whatsoever. Tax liability rests with each winner; winners may be asked for their Social Security number for tax purposes. Company/sponsors reserve the right to end, amend, or extend this drawing at any time. All entries become the property of the aforementioned and will not be returned. A list of winners will be posted after date here at this url, in this publication, and is available upon request when a self-addressed, stamped envelope is provided. Complete contest rules and extra copies of the entry form are available on this website, at this location. (copyright the contest rules if original)
